A diastema is a visible gap between two teeth, most commonly between the upper central incisors (the "central diastema"). Causes range from genetic tooth-size discrepancies to high frenum attachment to long-term tongue thrust habits. While orthodontic treatment (Invisalign, braces) can close diastemas in 6-12 months, porcelain veneers can close them in 5 days — without moving any teeth.

When Veneers Are the Right Choice for Diastema
Veneers work well for diastema when:
- Gap is 1-3 mm — Wider gaps (>3 mm) often require some orthodontic movement or implants in addition.
- Adjacent teeth are reasonably aligned — If the surrounding teeth are crooked, you may need braces first or a Hollywood smile approach.
- You want to preserve healthy enamel — Veneers require minimal preparation (0.3-0.5 mm).
- You need a fast solution — Wedding, public appearance, professional reason.
- Combined cosmetic concerns — Gap + colour + alignment can all be addressed simultaneously.
When orthodontics is preferred over veneers:
- Wide gaps (>3 mm) where veneer alone would create unnaturally wide teeth
- Teeth otherwise healthy and you prefer not to modify natural enamel
- Time is not a constraint
- You are young (18-25) and tooth movement is straightforward

Two Approaches to Veneer Diastema Closure
Approach 1 — Two-veneer closure
Place veneers only on the two teeth bordering the gap (e.g., the two central incisors for a midline diastema). The veneers are slightly wider than the original teeth, eliminating the gap. Best for clean, isolated single gaps.
Approach 2 — Multi-tooth aesthetic redesign
Place 4, 6, 8, or more veneers across the smile zone, redistributing tooth widths so the gap is closed proportionally and all teeth look harmonious. Better for cases where the diastema is part of a broader cosmetic concern.
For pure midline diastema with otherwise good tooth alignment, Approach 1 is preferred. For diastema combined with other cosmetic goals (uneven length, slight rotations, shade differences), Approach 2 is more elegant.
The 5-Day Treatment Protocol
Day 1 — Smile Design

Day 3-4 — Lab Fabrication
- Master ceramist hand-layers each veneer
- Particular attention to interproximal contacts (the contact points between adjacent teeth)
- Multiple firing cycles for natural translucency
- You explore Antalya during this phase
Day 5 — Try-In + Final Bonding
- Veneers placed unbonded for your approval
- You see the gap closed in real lighting, smile, talk, take photos
- After your written approval, each veneer is acid-etched and bonded
- Bite adjustment, polish, take-home kit
Frenectomy — Sometimes Needed
A high frenum attachment (the strip of tissue connecting your upper lip to your gum) sometimes contributes to diastema. If we identify a high frenum during examination, we may recommend a 5-minute frenectomy at the start of treatment. This prevents the gap from re-opening over time and is done under local anaesthesia at no additional discomfort.
